The present population at Brookfield Elementary School is 61 students.
J. Merriam, School Board Chair, spoke about the current legislation that will have an effect on the budget including the possibility of removing the Small School Grant and changing how “phantom students” are accounted for. The Brookfield School Board has maintained an honest budget but not all schools do. The Brookfield budget has dropped 7% but the education tax rate will be going up due to the common level of appraisal dropping 11%.
S. McKelvie, Brookfield Elementary School Principal, answered questions concerning the siding replacement on the building and what the long term maintenance plan is. The school will have a new well drilled. The school is required to do SBAC testing on line so the school had to upgrade its servers and fiber optics. There are 15 laptops and 5 I-pads shared. Each teacher has a laptop.
With no further discussion, C. Keeler, Moderator, adjourned the meeting at 2:08 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Teresa Godfrey, Town Clerk
