The Brookfield Highway Department maintains approximately 65 miles of town roads, both paved and gravel. The town is under contract with the State of Vermont for some of the maintenance on State Route 65.
With a crew of 3 full-time and 1 part-time staff, the Highway Department is responsible for grading, ditching, sign replacement, culvert work, and in winter months plowing and sanding/salting.
Winter plow routes are set up to coincide with bus routes. All bus routes will be given priority while school is in session. Side roads and other routes will be maintained once bus routes are taken care of.
Sand is available for residents outside the gate to the Town Garage with a (3) 5-gallon bucket limit.
A quick reminder to all that it is against the law to deposit/plow snow onto/into town roads and creates hazards for all who travel.
